Travis Dunn Joins Arizona Coaching Staff

PHOENIX, Az. - For this upcoming season, Arizona Sidewinders welcome Travis Dunn - decorated Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA)  all-star - to the coaching roster.

Dunn has been playing ultimate for over 15 years with extensive experience in the men's professional circuit with the San Diego Growlers of the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA), as well as experience playing high-level co-ed with players on the current and past Sidewinders rosters. According to the UFA website, Dunn has been nominated for UFA MVP and made an All-UFA Team every season since 2018 (1st Team in 2018-2021, 2nd Team in 2022 and 2024, and 3rd Team in 2023). He was also chosen as 2023 Ultiworld Mixed Club Offensive Player of the Year for USAUltimate.

When asked what he hoped to bring to the team this year with his experience, Dunn aims to bring a heightened sense of field awareness to the players.

“Over time I've developed a good sense of field of awareness and movement. Truly being involved in the play and trying to help any player visualize how the game is coming together even if they are not involved,” Dunn said.

Dunn added that he wants to see the Sidewinders work and grow together as a team. With so many rookies on the 2025 roster, this could be a challenge, but Dunn is no stranger to learning to build chemistry with ever-changing rosters.

“The biggest thing for me as a coach is to help everybody on the team to grow. I want to continue to help others to grow and share what I've experienced over time,” Dunn said. “My expectation is to limit the negative and limit the amount of turnovers.”

His biggest piece of advice for players who want to make it to the pros is simple: “Don’t allow anything to become personal, and take everything as an opportunity to grow.”

Dunn joins the Sidewinders returning coaching staff of Head Coach Melissa Huegerich, and Assistant Coaches, Ross Barker and Jax Salustro. The Western Ultimate League 2025 season kicked off last weekend where Arizona fell to San Diego 14-23. Arizona hosts its first home game this weekend, Saturday, March 29 at 7pm PT. Tune in live on YouTube or attend the game in person at Mountain View High School. Tickets are available on arizonasidewinders.com
